Happy New Year!

It’s a New Year…lots to look forward to in the New Year.  We have so much to do and so little time to do it.  It often seems like we have all the time to get everything accomplished, so we grow complacent and not willing to do as we have been called to do.  We get use to the same thing day after day and same worship Sunday after Sunday that we stop putting our heart, soul and passion into worship and into service.  As Christians, we are not here to sit around and watch the days go by.  We are here because we have a purpose…a call…a job to do.  We are called to make a difference…we are called to serve – If He is our KING!  That doesn’t mean that we work ourselves so that we do nothing well.  That means we give 110% to what God has called us and for the purpose in which He has called us.  There are a couple of verses we need to consider as we look at this New Year and our service to Him:
1)      Ephesians 2:10
This says that we are God’s workmanship – we are His creation.  We are made by Him…just like we are…not to be like anyone else – but to be you.  We are also made to do great things!  Things for Him, good things just for Him!  That means we aren’t doing it for ourselves.  We aren’t being selfish in our work, but working for His glory!  This purpose was set before we even knew about it…before our parents knew or anyone else.  Just like God told Jeremiah – He created us and knew us even before we were born!  That means He had a purpose for us even before we even arrived here.  That doesn’t make us important – it makes OUR MISSION IMPORTANT!!
Your mission is important because you were called for this!!!
The second verse is a caution:
2)      2 Timothy 3:12-17
If we live for Him, we are persecuted.  There will be imposters – people who appear to be Christians but actually just lead you astray.  Stay focused on what you know to be true and that is from the Word of God – which isn’t always going to tell us what we want to hear!  Notice something else – Scripture is given so that you and me may be complete – thoroughly equipped for EVERY GOOD WORK!
Wow!  We were created for good works, we were made for good works, and we have the tools to equip us to do those good works!  That sounds to me like we have no excuses to get complacent and to do nothing.  We must get to work!  HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
